2-8 July 2011

This week on our P-day we found a pretty big outdoor market right here in Leiden - it went for quite a ways along the canal and there were booths with everything imaginable in them for sale.

I took this picture of myself with the Wimbledon women's finals on. I really enjoyed watching them on BBC, an English station that I can understand!

This was our Fourth of July celebration in the office on Monday. We made lunch for the office staff and had Sister Brubaker's niece and son visiting from Provo. We had cute little American flags that we're holding.

We made hamburgers, potato salad and root beer floats (with A&W Rootbeer). The elders were so happy. Later that day we joined the rest of our zone in Amsterdam for another 4th of July barbecue! It was fun to visit with old friends.

This is just a pretty view of a canal with people's little yards on it - it's in Rijnsburg and we pass scenes like this every time we go for a walk near our apartment.

We made another lunch this week for 18 for a Zone Leader's Council that was held at the office. We went to IKEA and bought a big cabinet thing to put in our new office kitchen - Loel put it together and it looks great and totally matches the kitchen. Slowly but surely our office is getting to where it needs to be. We also got our two new computers set up (an elder helped) and are still working out the bugs on that transition.

We've also started visiting a few people in our branch in an effort to get to know them. We made some peanut butter bars and brought them over. I was happy that we found both families at home and had nice visits.

We had a note left on our windshield from the police saying we needed to call them. We had no idea why, called and were told to come in. We were a little worried. Turns out they wanted to see our car - they found footprints on the front of it and the top - two boys had been arrested in our neighborhood for vandalism and the police wanted to check our car to make sure it wasn't damaged, but also wanted to see it themselves before they told us anything so that we couldn't try to get them to repair something on our car that wasn't damaged by the vandals. It was all kind of a mystery for a while with us wondering if we were going to get kicked out of the country or something! But we're not.
